Nguyen - Van Gee Duo

The Nguyen-Van Gee Duo is the duet project of violinist, Rochelle Nguyen, and violist, Jill Van Gee. Having played together in chamber ensembles and orchestras, the pair began to explore the duet repertoire as a light-hearted departure from those larger ensembles. What began as a diversion has grown into a legitimate musical undertaking, with inspired performances over the last two seasons. Enjoying the versatility of the violin and viola, the Duo performs music ranging from the standards of Mozart and Martinu to opera arias and Americana. The Nguyen-Van Gee Duo continues to explore and now commission new repertoire to share with audiences in the Bay Area and around the world. The Duo's mission: To bring chamber music to all audiences, new and old, and to share their infectious joy and delight in the art form.

Altea Piano Quartet

The Altea Piano Quartet has delighted audiences in the South Bay and beyond since its inception in 2018. The name “Altea” is derived from the Greek word meaning “to heal”, and Altea’s mission is to heal the cultural and artistic divides in our community through exceptional classical music performance.

Altea is a leader in promoting diversity and education in classical music through varied programming, direct audience engagement, and creative collaborations. Altea is committed to producing engaging, well-informed performances that include pre-concert lectures, written program notes, and post-concert mingling with the artists. The combined effect of these efforts is that Altea’s perspectives on music are communicated to myriad audiences--classical music newcomers and aficionados alike. Finally, Altea’s creative collaborations with local composers, such as Durwynne Hsieh, serve to broaden the local classical music scene.

The Altea Piano Quartet comprises four accomplished, professional musicians residing in and performing chamber and orchestral music in the Bay Area. Jacquelin Choi, Nancy Kim, and Jill Van Gee founded Altea in 2018, and in collaboration with the Korean-American Music Supporters’ Association (KAMSA), Altea performed its first major recital in the Fall of 2018. Rochelle Nguyen joined the quartet in 2019, and later that year, Altea produced and performed its next major recital at Santa Clara University. Altea continues to plan future performances throughout the Bay Area. In addition to being passionate professional performers, all four musicians are teachers and coaches, committed to outreach and community engagement.
